I totally heart you. Today in social studies class, Kim R. was like, “Journey’s way cool!” and I was like, “TOTALLY!” and she was like,”I’m totally hoping they play Journey at our skating party at King’s Roller Rink!” and I was like, “For SURE.” I am also totally hoping that [name deleted] will ask me to skate with him on the Moonlight Couple to “Faithfully,” although I will totally be dying.

Glee-cap: Funk

So, I dunno, maybe I’m tired, maybe I’m cranky, maybe I ate too much Cool Whip with my pudding. Whatever the reason, tonight’s episode of Glee left me nonplussed.

It’s not that I’m not a funk fan – quite the contrary! I suppose my disappointment with tonight’s show has something to do with its completely unrealistic subplots (Quinn suddenly decides to get funky. What does that even MEAN? Sue Sylvester falls for Will Schuester? Every lesbian in the world is guffawing right now. Etc., etc…)

I’m too exhausted to get into all the ways “Funk” made me catatonic. Instead I’ll focus on the music. Now, the epi had some high points: for example, I was pleased to hear Mercedes bring it as Puck and Quinn’s backup vocalist on “Good Vibrations,” and it was fun to see Kurt impishly dancing around on “We Want the Funk.” But the numbers in general just didn’t do it for me.

Here are just a few songs that could’ve done this episode the justice it deserved:

Glee-Cap: The Power of Madonna

Although Glee’s plotlines are growing worrisomely ridiculous, I think we can safely say that tonight’s “Power of Madonna” episode had it all – high drama. Fashion. Hair. Dancing. And of course, ass-kicking music.

I’m about as big a Madge fan as they come, so admittedly I’m a little biased. But I do think the show pulled off its most-hyped episode pretty smoothly.

My summation:

1) Best number of the night = Mercedes and Kurt and the Cheerios’ rendition of “4 Minutes.”

2) Totally dug the Edward Scissorhands-like take on “Ray of Light.”

3) YES! That IS Jane Lynch’s real voice in the “Vogue” video! I am wholeheartedly impressed that Sue Sylvester can truly sing, almost better than The Material Girl herself.

4) Thank you, Glee gods, for answering my prayers and sending more numbers featuring Kurt’s angelic voice. His sublime solo during “Like a Prayer” made me weep.

5) The losing-the-virginity angle lumping Rachel, Finn, and Emma’s liaisons into one huge dream sequence was icky, icky, icky.

6) Although Puck’s facial expressions were amusing, the run-up to “What it Feels Like for a Girl” (all the guys in Glee sitting around talking about respecting women) was pretty redonkulous. Fortunately, they performed the song itself to utter perfection.

7) Dear writers: Give Quinn more lines! I find myself always wanting to touch her hair. Also, her voice completely sedates me.
